What is CBD?
In 2018, CBD was a $3 billion dollar industry in the US. The therapeutic properties of CBD, combined with its ability to relax the mind and body, has prompted an outbreak of CBD products being introduced into the market.
Current scientific studies show CBD’s potential to help with a number of health conditions. It’s been noted to help as an anti-inflammatory and to ease stressors, balancing mood. In June 2018, the FDA approved Epidiolex, the first CBD drug, which was for epilepsy.
But there’s still an air of mystery with CBD, and more scientific studies are underway to determine exactly how CBD affects the body (both human and canine).
Dr. Brent Bauer (Integrative Nutrition, Mayo Clinic) said, “If it’s strong enough to help you, it’s strong enough to hurt you.” This is good advice, as new CBD remedies present themselves.
Furthermore, make sure the CBD products you buy are validated by a third-party tester and ask the store how its extracts are made. Under federal law, CBD products can’t contain more than 0.3% of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol).
