Hellomellow: Hydration, hives, and one big mystery
Alright, let’s just cut to the chase (because I can’t hold it in any longer)—Hellomellow Uplift Body Butter costs $36 for a 4 oz. jar, which means it better be made of unicorn tears and eternal youth.
According to the brand, it’s a luxurious, handcrafted blend of
avocado butter, mango butter, grapefruit essential oil, and vanilla essential oil— no water, no fillers, no toxins, just pure, rich nourishment.
Sounds fantastic to me (except for the price, that is).
It’s supposed to
combat aging,
improve skin elasticity,
deeply hydrate,
and basically turn us into a glowing goddess.
Sounds like a dream, right?
Not for me…it was a personal nightmare.
I always do a little patch test before slathering anything new all over my body (a habit that is necessary, as I have extremely sensitive skin), and within minutes, my skin decided this body butter was the enemy.
I broke out in hives faster than you can say "all-natural skincare." So, as much as I wanted to experience the supposed magic of this butter, I was out.
Sorry coach…bench me. I’m out of the game.
But don’t worry—I wasn’t about to leave you hanging. I had one of my best friends to take one for the team, because we need stats.
Her first reaction? “Why does this feel like a sugar scrub?” And honestly, same. It’s called a “body butter,” but the texture is more gritty than creamy, which was… unexpected. She applied it, rubbed it in, and immediately declared, “This is way too oily. I hate it.”
However, plot twist—after she washed it off, her skin felt soft, smooth, and oddly refreshed.
It’s like this butter plays hard to get: annoying at first, but once you remove it, your skin is weirdly happy. Her final review? “My legs feel great, like I don’t even need lotion. But applying it was an experience I did not enjoy.”
Now, onto the scent—grapefruit with a touch of vanilla. It’s bright, citrusy, and fresh, and I’ll give them credit—it smells expensive.
Also, apparently, grapefruit essential oil can help boost metabolism and reduce cravings, which makes me wonder… am I supposed to eat this? (I won’t, but I thought about it.)
So, here’s the final verdict. If you’re not allergic to it and don’t mind a body butter that feels nothing like a body butter, you might actually love this.
It delivers results, but the experience is… complicated. If you’re someone who likes your skincare straightforward, you might want to keep looking.
If your skin is like mine and decides to stage a full rebellion against it? Well, at least you’ll smell fantastic while dealing with the aftermath.
