Confessions of a Midnight Kitchen Gremlin (Featuring Chocolate Tahini)
You know that version of yourself that shows up in the kitchen at midnight?
Hair is a mess. Lights barely on. No real plan—just vibes and poor decisions.
Yeah… this review is about her.
Because I bought Soom Chocolate Sesame Spread with every intention of being responsible. You know—spread it on toast, maybe drizzle it on something “aesthetic,” pretend I have my life together.
What actually happened?
I stood in my kitchen eating it straight from the jar like a sleep-deprived raccoon with zero self-control.
So let’s talk about it.
What Even Is It?
This isn’t your typical chocolate tahini spread. It aims to outshine others by being both delicious and better for you.
It’s made with just a few simple ingredients:
Cocoa powder
Powdered pure cane sugar
Tahini (aka sesame seeds)
That’s it. No additives, chemicals, or odd surprises—just pure chocolate tahini goodness.
It is:
Vegan
Gluten-free
Dairy-free
Kosher
Plant-based
No artificial colors or sweeteners
No refined sugars or preservatives
Also, it contains 67% less sugar than leading brands, proving you don't need excess sugar for great taste.
Now that you know what's inside, let's talk about another important factor: the price.
$4.55 on Thrive Market (normally $8.99 … okaiiiiii discount)
$15.17 on Amazon (but it’s a two-pack situation)
And yes—I personally grabbed mine from Thrive Market, and at that price? It felt like a steal.
Their Story (and honestly, I kind of love this part)
Soom is a women-owned company started by three sisters—Amy, Jackie, and Shelby—who basically turned their love of food and family into a business.
And listen… You can feel that energy in the brand.
Their whole thing started around the kitchen table (relatable), then leveled up after discovering tahini overseas that actually had flavor (also relatable, because store-bought tahini here can be… questionable).
So they recreated it. And then took it a step further with products like this chocolate spread.
Other things they sell:
More chocolate spreads
Tahini spreads
Snack bites
Cookbooks
Merch
If you love this spread, their other chocolate-and-tahini products might win you over, too.
And honestly? I’ve already gone down that rabbit hole.
I tried their snack bites as well—and they were so good that I ended up writing a full review of those, too.
IMBHO Taste Test (the part you actually care about)
I’ll start here:
I was, but I also was not expecting this- at the same time.
Like… I thought it would be “good for a healthier option.”
Nope.
This was just good.
Rich chocolate flavor ✔️
Slight roasted sesame undertone ✔️
Smooth, creamy texture ✔️
Spreads easily (no arm workout required) ✔️
Now, honesty moment (because that’s why you’re here):
It is just a tiny bit saltier than I personally prefer—and I wouldn’t recommend throwing it on something already salty unless you’re trying to push it over the edge.
BUT.
The salt content was not enough to ruin it. Not even close.
If anything, it kind of balances the sweetness in a way that keeps you going back for “just one more bite” until suddenly the jar is… uh…
Gone.
Ask me how I know.
How I Used It (aka my new personality for a week)
I started simple: Toast.
That’s it. That was the plan.
And then somehow it turned into:
Toast every morning
Then, occasionally, “just a spoonful.”
And then, there I was, standing in the kitchen like a gremlin eating it straight from the jar at midnight…
No regrets. Not a single one.
The smell? Strong chocolate. The good kind. The kind that makes you open the jar again just to smell it like the weirdo that I am.
Final Verdict (IMBHO, obviously)
This product looks like a healthier option, but it actually surpasses traditional spreads in taste and quality.
Would I change anything?
Slightly less salt.
Will that stop me from buying it again?
Absolutely not.
This is one to reorder before you run out.
Because let me tell you—when that jar is empty, and you realize you don’t have another one waiting?
That’s a mistake you only make once.
